The Cake
"THE CAKE"
Since 2021, "The Cake" has been gradually taking shape on Beverly Boulevard. As June 2025 draws near, the project is nearly complete—a contemporary space thoughtfully constructed to embody High Society’s dedication to both craftsmanship and transparency of process. Named “The Cake” to celebrate nearly 57 years in business, the building’s two-tiered form resembles a layered confection: its ground floor (High Society) provides a base layer, while the upper level (Silk Project) serves as a ceremonial flourish. The textured exterior, with its handmade tiles and geometric reliefs, further evokes the decorative finish and form of a frosted cake, underscoring the celebratory spirit woven throughout the design. From first sketches to final bricks, every decision has been guided by a desire to make the atelier’s outer workings as visible and inviting as the garments it produces.
The exterior comes alive with handmade tiles by artist Michael Dopp, their varied textures catching light and casting subtle shadows across the façade. Sharp, geometric angles carve out a bold profile against the street, while natural finishes (pale oak planks and exposed raw concrete) imbue the structure with a tactile warmth. Inside, the ground floor unfolds into two harmonized yet distinct zones: up front, a carefully curated retail gallery showcases seasonal collections and bespoke pieces; at the rear, a dedicated tailoring atelier hums with activity, where precise measurements and tailors work occur behind sheer partitions that float like veils, separating the two spaces.
The retail area showcases an evolving selection of High Society’s bespoke pieces like pottery, stationery, and other meticulously designed objects. A dedicated conference room allows for in-depth consultations, supported by a nearby changing room for fittings. The tailoring area includes a workspace for pattern cutting, sewing, and finishing.Though unseen by most visitors, these functional areas are instrumental in bringing the showroom’s refined pieces to life by showing the live process of the craft.
On the upper level, Titles Studio and Silk Project operate as dynamic incubators for material exploration and conceptual design. If the first floor celebrates the making of each garment, the second floor is devoted to the study of its fundamental elements—fabrics, finishes, and form. A full-height glazed wall at the back frames a sweeping vista of the Hollywood Hills, offering a tranquil counterpoint to the urban bustle below and providing inspiration for ongoing creative endeavors. More than a boutique, "The Cake" is a living atelier in which every facet of High Society’s methodology is laid bare—nearly ready to invite clients into the very heart of the craft and to redefine their experience of the bespoke process.
